This renovation of a 1896 cottage in a conservation area required the restoration of the front of the house (the original sash windows were replaced by French doors and shutters). The interior was transformed to a light contemporary open plan living area articulated and organised with a steel structural system supporting the bedroom level above. The courtyard with a deep linear pool keeps the house cool in summer while the pergola controls the west sun and provides a "ceiling" to the outside space.
